How to Kill Fruit Flies in Your Home
In order to get rid of household pests, a lazy approach won’t work. You might see fewer fruit flies for a couple of days but, if you don’t follow through, they’ll just come back again and again. So, read through these steps then follow them.
There are several ways to kill fruit flies. Here are the few which I found most successful.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Pour apple cider vinegar into a glass. Cover it with plastic wrap and tie with a rubber band. Then, poke holes in the plastic wrap for fruit flies to enter. They can’t resist the scent of vinegar and will come toward it for sure but they won’t be able to get out of the glass. Change the vinegar daily for better results.
2. Vinegar and dish soap
Take some vinegar in the bowl and pour three drops of dish soap in it. Leave it uncovered. The fruit flies will come toward towards the bowl because of the vinegar. The soap cuts the surface tension of the vinegar so the flies will sink and drown.
3. A paper cone and a piece of fruit
Place a little vinegar with a chunk of very ripe fruit in a jar. Use a kitchen funnel or create a paper cone similar to funnel. Insert the paper cone in a bottle from the narrow end. The flies will come inside the bottle but won’t be able to go back.
4. Red Wine
Just like vinegar, fruit flies like the smell of red wine too. Leave a bottle open with little liquid in it.
How to Kill Fruit Flies in Drains
Some fruit flies come from the places where it is not easy to place a trap such as a bathroom drains, shower drains, and toilet etc. To get rid of flies in these areas, pour boiling water or boiling white vinegar.
Make sure to keep your drains clear of hairs and other debris.
